Ascott Designs had it all boxed off recently after installing unique artificial
hedging and planting at Est Est Est, Trafford Centre. The work, carried out as part of an exterior re-vamp of the popular Italian restaurant, demonstrates the spectacular effects that can be achieved with replica Boxwood hedging.
Tasked with making the Est Est Est frontage stand out from neighbouring eateries in the Trafford Centre’s Orient, Ascott Designs, the replica plant division of PHS Greenleaf, designed and installed eye-catching Boxwood hedging and artificial planting to provide instant, functional and attractive screening.
Imitation hedging has improved vastly in recent years and provides several advantages over real foliage. Built using dense Boxwood matting with small seed effect, it really is quite difficult to tell it apart from the real thing. The matting is fixed to wooden frames and supplied in troughs or, as in the case of Est Est Est, installed on site in the customer’s own containers.
Each section of Boxwood hedging is custom-built by hand and supplied to the exact dimensions specified, ensuring that even the most awkward spaces can enjoy a bit of sprucing up. Catering for most shapes and sizes of hedging, Ascott Designs provides a flexible service including any or every aspect of measurement, design and installation.
With minimum maintenance required, replica Boxwood hedging will last for years and can be used inside or out to provide privacy, screening from unsightly walls, shelter from wind or to brighten up seating areas.
The popularity and quality of replica Boxwood hedging has led to increased demand and prompted Ascott Designs to launch a dedicated website – www.boxwoodhedges.co.uk.
Along with the Boxwood hedging at Est Est Est, Ascott Designs also provided replica potted red and green grasses, Boston Ferns, trailing ivy and Podocarpus bushes to add colour and interest. Containers and troughs were filled on site during night time closures at the Trafford Centre and carefully glued top dressings of decorative stones were used to ensure that the plants stay in place. The Ascott Designs technicians cleaned up as they went, working carefully alongside carpentry and electrical contractors who were completing other aspects of the refurbishment.
“Every job is different and presents its own challenges”, says Derek Brown, General Manager at Ascott Designs. “On this occasion we built the hedges to a tight deadline and then worked 24 hours straight to load, transport and install it. As usual, our hard work paid off – the restaurant’s exterior looks great and we’ve had lots of compliments on the finished job.”
